Ask Tam a question

Brickwork

Are brick foundations important, and can I do them myself?

“Brick foundations are important, yes, but they need to be level and done right. It depends on the structure, obviously, but 9 times out of 10 you'll need it all level. Don't attempt this yourself — get a professional.”

Brickwork

Is 3rd class brick worth it compared to the alternatives?

“Basically it's lower quality — not as square as 1st class, with more of a rounded edge. It's not as durable and doesn't really last as long either. If you want something done right, do it right the first time and stick to what you know, or what a professional recommends.”

Artificial grass

How much sand do you put on artificial grass?

“You can use too much, but it just means the brushing-in process takes a lot longer. The best sand to use is kiln-dried sand — but you must not let any moisture get into the bag or it won't work.”

— Tam, Brick Point Landscaping

Privacy

How can I use container plants to get more privacy?

“I'd suggest different planters and stacking them high, or bamboo screens or fake plant screens — great for privacy. If not, then double-side your fence and/or make it higher.”

Privacy

What's the best arbour for privacy?

“A closed-off one — bamboo or some kind of trellis. You can find ones online that look like trees and leaves. They're fake, but you get some really nice ones.”
